One Of God’s Most Amazing Promises

I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them. (Jeremiah 32:40)

This is one of God’s most amazing promises.? Do you believe that God is continually doing good to you? ?If you did, wouldn?t that make a huge difference in your attitude?

We tend to think God is blessing us when something obviously good happens, like when we get an unexpected bonus or our 4 year old obeys the first time we tell them to do something. ?But we don?t tend to think God is blessing us when something ?bad? happens to us. ?Then our first thought can be why is this happening to me? ?Or why would God do this to me?

In every affliction we should seek to thank the Lord for the good he is doing us. I?m not saying we should thank God for evil. ?We don?t have to thank God for cancer or our teenager?s rebellion, but we can thank God for turning evil we endure to our good and his glory.

The reason God never ceases to do good to his children is because he?s redeemed us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. He?s joined us to Christ and made us one with him. ?Our heavenly Father now loves us as he loves his very own Son. ?And just as he?ll never stop loving Jesus, he?ll never stop loving us who are one Christ.

Most of the time we?re unaware of all the good God does to us. But every second of every day, from the moment the alarm goes off in the morning, as we splash water on our face, drink our coffee and head off into traffic, or as we start another grueling day with the kids, all through the day till we fall into bed and all night as we sleep – God never ceases to do good to us.

While we go about our daily routines, God keeps our hearts beating, lungs breathing, and sustains every system in our bodies. He protects and delivers us from the schemes of the enemy, provides for us, and arranges our lives to make us more and more like Christ.

While we?re washing dishes or filling out a spread sheet, God is directing history, nations, weather, economies, and the hearts of all men for the good of his people. ?While we?re watching TV or grabbing some things at the store, God is providentially arranging every detail of our lives in order to bless us.

Are you going through a trial right now? Keep asking God to sustain and deliver you. ?But also thank him that he?s doing good to you.? Maybe you feel like your life is on hold. Maybe you just don?t see God doing anything in your life. ?In faith, thank Jesus that he hasn?t turned from doing good to you.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit,
Thank you for your everlasting covenant to never turn away from doing good me.
Thank you for all the good you are doing in my life right now
Thank you for doing good to me in every hard thing I face right now
And thank you most of all for saving me
And giving me an eternal hope.

God's faithfulness to unfaithful people like us is beautiful. I love that He's always reaching out to His children.

  • Elaine says:

I love this promise! Thanks such much for the encouragement!

One of the most difficult trials we have experienced was the reoccurance of my dad's cancer and his subsequent death. Even though that time was incredibly painful, the Lord blessed us over and over again with His peace and His grace. He brought so many people into our lives who blessed us by serving us in a myriad of ways. It was a difflcult trial but He turned it into a precious time of His goodness to us and to my dad. Dad believed in the Lord and trusted Him as his substitute for his sin on the cross and so, not only did God rescue Dad from cancer but He rescued him from his sin.

Love this promise, AND I know it by heart, thanks to Hide the Word! (Haven't done a HTW testimonial in a while, Mark…)

  • Mark Altrogge says:

Great comment Louis! God's faithfulness to unfaithful people like us…Thanks for adding this.

Thanks Lisa! And thanks for always mentioning Hide the Word!

  • Krista says:

Thanks, Mark, for reminding us/me of God’s goodness and faithfulness. Sometimes it is easy to forget…

  • Mark Altrogge says:

Sure Krista, I’m preaching to myself too…

  • ann metcalf says:

Thank you for the prayer at the end. I need to say that everyday! "Thank you for doing good to me in every hard thing I face right now"

Why is it so difficult for us to rejoice in our trials knowing that they WILL produce fruit?

  • MarkAltrogge says:

Thanks ann! Yes, we need faith!

  • Katy says:

reminds me of one of my favorite Piper Quotes….

God will not turn away from doing you good. He will keep on doing good. He doesn't do good to His children sometimes and bad to them other times. He keeps on doing good and He never will stop doing good for ten thousand ages of ages. When things are going bad that does not mean God has stopped doing good. It means He is shifting things around to get them in place for more good, if you will go on loving Him. – JOHN PIPER

Also, Jer 32:40 may be my 2012 life verse. I had another one picked out, but realized after reading this article that believing God is good is my biggest struggle. Its hard to see pain as good, but with God, all things are possible – even the redemption of evil things.

  • Mark Altrogge says:

Hi Katy, Great Piper quote! I think Jer 32:40 is one of my life verses – it sustains me regularly, especially in hard times.

  • Ron Reffett says:

Hey Mark, Great encouraging words…once again! I'm still learning that lesson that God sends the disasters as well as the sunshine. It's usually in the disaster that I feel His nearness the most. And no matter what, even when it looks the darkest, God is with us! He'll never leave, He said so!!
Thanks for once again another encouraging word!

Hey Ron, I think we all have to keep learning this lesson all our lives. Thanks for adding your faith-filled comments!
