I’ve been listening to my friends the Bairds’ (West Coast Revival) new album, “Some Bright Golden Morning” and really enjoying it.
From the driving hope-filled “Time Keeps Slipping Away” to the bluesy, soulful “Cross Over Jordan” to the passionate accoustic rendering of the great hymn “Depth of Mercy” this album is filled with great lyrics and creative melodies. I love the vocals – their voices are rich and full of emotion. A number of the songs are worship songs, like the beautiful “To Know You.” “Some Come Through Fire” is a great song for both unbelievers and believers who are suffering or discouraged or doubting God’s love for them. Could even use it as an opener when the church gathers to worship. I especially like “Sing Your Mercies New.” It is in a folk rock style reminiscent of Mumford and Sons or the Lumineers (as if an old guy like me knows anything about folk rock). It’s a real toe tapper (old man phrase) and hand clapper. I want to open worship with this one in our church real soon.
I really like the focus of several of the songs, like “Time Keeps Slipping Away,” and the title track “Some Bright Golden Morning” which look forward to Christ’s glorious return. The chorus is so joyful and uplifting. I can’t help but smile as I listen to the song.
Get the album. You’ll be glad you did. You can listen to samples or purchase the album here.
