Because you had to be a big shot, didn’t you
You had to open up your mouth
You had to be a big shot, didn’t you
All your friends were so knocked out
You had to have the last word, last night
You know what everything’s about
You had to have a white hot spotlight
You had to be a big shot last night
“Big Shot” by Billy Joel
How terrible must be the account given of life spent only in laboring to acquire distinction. Adam indulged this disposition once and lost his immortality. Satan indulged this disposition once and was cast out of heaven. What will become of him who has eagerly followed this career of his apostate first parent and of this apostate angel throughout the whole of his probation?” — Timothy Dwight in Dave Harvey, Rescuing Ambition
Let us labor for the distinction of one Name only, the Name above all names.? He must increase; we must decrease.? How many will we meet in heaven who had no name here, but will be honored by Jesus, like the widow who gave her last mite, the leper who returned to give thanks, the four men of faith who lowered their paralyzed friend through the roof, and the woman with the discharge of blood who pressed through the crowd to touch the hem of Jesus’ robe.
A hundred years from now most of our names will be forgotten.? So let’s live to glorify the Name of the one who has engraved our names on the palms of his hands.
