Imagine how psyched you?d be if you won $40,000 in the lottery. Now imagine if you found out that you had actually won $40 million. Maria Carreiro, a 51-year-old Toronto grandmother, is doing a serious happy dance since discovering she hit the Lotto Max jackpot in the Ontario lottery. After checking her ticket at a convenience store, she ran home to tell her family she?d won $40,000. Her daughter was so excited she went to confirm the win on the computer, where she discovered a few more zeros. ?She goes ?Mommy, you?re $40 million richer.? I?m like, ?No way, no way.?? Yes way. Carreiro is taking her husband on a Hawaiian honeymoon and the grandkids to Disney World ? just for starters. (msnNOW.com 4/10/13)
This story made me think of heaven. We can?t begin to fathom its glory.
We know it?s going to be amazing. We know we?ll be ravished by Jesus? infinite beauty. We know we?ll have new bodies that will never get tired or sick or die. We know Jesus will wipe away every tear from our eyes. We know Heaven will be a world of perfect love and no sin. No one will be jealous of anyone else ? we?ll rejoice to see others blessed and honored even above us. We know we?ll have fullness of joy in the presence of God.
We grieve when fellow believers go home to be with the Lord, yet not without hope ? we know they are rejoicing before the throne and we will join them soon.
We know heaven?s worship will be better than a thousand symphony orchestras combined. There will be songs and sounds and melodies and harmonies never heard on earth. Choirs of angels joining multitudes from every tribe and tongue.
We know our present sufferings produce an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison. Yes, we know heaven will be fantastic.
Yet we can?t fathom the glories of our next life. We?re like the woman who won the lottery and celebrated because she thought she?d won $40,000 when in reality it was 40 million.
even when we were dead in our trespasses, (God) made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved- and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:5-7
We can?t fathom the ?immeasurable riches of his grace and kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.? Who can possibly grasp the immeasurable? And God will show us the riches of his kindness to us in Christ for ?the coming ages?. Did you catch that? Ages. We live in the present age. The whole history of the universe, our world and the human race is but the present age. Yet it?s going to take ?the coming ages? for God to show us the immeasurable riches he?s given us in Christ. In other words, God will be unveiling for us all he?s given us in Jesus forever and ever.
I believe that when we get there our eyes will pop out, our jaws will drop and we?ll gush, ?No way, no way! ?I knew it would be incredible but I never imagined this! ?No way, no way!? ?And Jesus will say, “Yes, way.”
Our finite minds imagine a $40,000 heaven. But it?s a $40 trillion heaven. No ? a $40 trillion times infinity heaven. Immeasurable. The coming ages.
And we?ll be there before we know it.
