The Easiest Way To Memorize Scripture: FREE SCRIPTURE SONGS!

When I was a young Christian, I heard a teaching about the importance and many benefits of memorizing God’s word.

So I began what would turn into a lifelong practice of seeking to commit Scripture to memory. I also love music, and played in rock bands in high school and college. When Jesus saved me, I got involved in leading worship. One day I thought I would try to set Scripture to music so I could memorize it easier. After all, companies use jingles to get people to remember products. I can still remember jingles from the 60’s and 70’s, like, “It’s so easy when you use Lestoil.” Or McDonald’s famous jingle, “You deserve a break today, so get up and get away to McDonalds.”

So I started setting Scripture to music and created a series of CDs called “Hide the Word,” which have around 200 Scriptures set to music. My hope was that they would benefit my family, church and others. Many people have told me they helped them memorize Scripture.

Last week we gave away a Scripture Song. My son Stephen, the creator of this blog, suggested we begin to build a library. So we’re going to offer last week’s song again for download, plus 4 more to get the library going. Then, Lord willing, we will continue to add to the library weekly. Try to memorize one Scripture or passage a week. Every morning (or whenever is best for you) play the song a couple times. Also write the passage on a notecard and review it often. Ok, here’s last week’s Scripture again,

Proverbs 4:18

the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
which shines brighter and brighter until full day. (PR 4:18)

Ok, here are 4 more to start our library. This next passage has really helped me experience God’s peace throughout my life.

Philippians 4:6-7

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (PHP 4:6-7)

Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you. (IS 43:2)

Numbers 23:19

God is not man, that he should lie,
or a son of man, that he should change his mind.
Has he said, and will he not do it?
Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?

And finally, Scripture Song #5:

Psalm 119:9-11

How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.
With my whole heart I seek you;
let me not wander from your commandments!
I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you. (PS 119.9-11)
