20 BIG Reasons You Can Trust God Today!

Again and again, the Bible tells us that we should trust God. For example,

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5)

Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. (Psalm 37:5)

What does it mean to trust God?

To trust God means we believe his word and obey him, look to him and hope in his promises even when we can’t see how his word can be true; even when everything around us would tell us to not trust him.

Why should we trust God? Why should we put all our hope and confidence in this being we have never even seen?

Satan’s go-to fiery dart is to try to get us to doubt God’s word. He’s been playing that card since the Garden of Eden when he said to Eve…”You surely won’t die when you eat that fruit…God’s holding out on you. He knows if you eat it you’ll be like him…”

So why should we trust in God? Because God gives us rock-solid reasons to trust him.

  1. God’s word is true
  2. God does not lie
  3. God never changes in his being
  4. God never changes his mind
  5. God never changes his plans or purposes
  6. God has never failed to fulfill his word
  7. God is sovereign over all things
  8. God is infinitely wise
  9. God is faithful
  10. God is infinitely loving
  11. God gave his son for us
  12. God is completely just
  13. God has wonderful plans
  14. God will make you like Christ
  15. God is infinitely good
  16. God is always good to his children
  17. God will never leave you
  18. God cares for you
  19. God will never let you go
  20. God is with you

Reason To Trust God #1: God’s Word Is Absolutely and Completely True

Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth (John 17:17).

And now, O Lord GOD, you are God, and your words are true, and you have promised this good thing to your servant (2 Samuel 7:28).

There is not one single part of God’s word that is not the absolute and complete truth. His word is not 90% true or 95% true or 99% true. If even one sentence were not true we would not be able to trust it. If even 1% were not true, we wouldn’t know which parts to believe.

When I was a young Christian someone said, “God said it, I believe it, that settles it.” That phrase really helped me when I went through challenging times. Knowing I could completely trust his word gave me hope like I had never known.

We trust in God because God’s word is true.

Reason To Trust In God #2: God Does Not Lie

God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? (Numbers 23:19)

Human beings lie. Sadly, even Christians lie at times. But God is absolutely and infinitely holy. He cannot lie and he does not lie. As I said earlier Satan would try to make us question God’s truthfulness. So the question is always, what am I going to believe – my eyes, my feelings, my own assessment of things, or God’s word? God does not lie and never has lied. Therefore we can in God.

Reason To Trust God #3: God Never Changes In His Being

“For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed (Malachi 3:6).

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

We change. We change physically as we grow from babies to children to teens to adults. We change in our tastes and preferences over the years. Years ago, I loved ice tea. Drank it all the time. Now I don’t really care for it. God never changes in his being. He is the same today as he has been for all eternity.

We can trust in God because God never changes.

Reason To Trust In God #4: God Never Changes His Mind

God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? (Numbers 23:19)

Because God never changes, he never changes his mind. He doesn’t say, “Well, I know that I said people should honor their parents, but the world has changed. People don’t have to do that any more. No. God never changes his mind. Because God never changes his mind we can trust him.

Reason To Trust God #5: God Never Changes His Plans or Purposes

The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands (Psalm 138:8).

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10).

God doesn’t start off with one plan for the world then change it if things don’t go right. And he has purposes for you and me which he will absolutely fulfill. He will fulfill his purpose for us, even though we will fail at times. He will fulfill his purpose for us even when we don’t know what that purpose is. His great purpose is to make us like Christ and glorify Christ through us, and despite our many weaknesses he will certainly fulfill that purpose. Therefore we can trust him.

Reason To Trust In God #6: God Has Never Failed to Fulfill His Word

Not one word of all the good promises that the LORD had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass (Joshua 21:45).

So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it (Isaiah 55:11).

God fulfilled every single promise he made to the Israelites. He brought them out of slavery and into the promised land. He subdued all their enemies. Not one of his good promises failed.

And I have seen God fulfill many of his good promises in my lifetime. And I’m still asking him to fulfill promises. Even if I don’t see them in this life, I know that in heaven I will see how he has done every single thing he has promised. Because he has never failed to fulfill his word, we can trust in God.

Reason To Trust God #7: God Is Sovereign Over All Things

For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, and who will turn it back? (Isaiah 14:27)

“O LORD, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you (2 Chronicles 20:6).

We can make promises, then circumstances may stop us from keeping them. I might promise to pick you up at 1:00, then get a flat tire on my way to your house. We can make promises, then something else comes up to keep us from keeping our word.

But nothing can stop God. He is sovereign over every molecule in the universe. He is sovereign over the angels of heaven and every demon. Satan and all his minions together can’t prevent God from saving people, providing for us and fulfilling his plans for us.

Because God is all-powerful, nothing can stop him from fulfilling his promises. Therefore we can trust God.

Reason To Trust In God #8: God Is Infinitely Wise

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! (Romans 11:33)

And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations! (Revelation 15:3)

It would be a scary universe if God were not infinitely wise. But because he is, he knows what is best to do in every situation. Because he is infinitely wise, his promises are perfect. Because he is infinitely wise, everything he has said is true and perfect and best for us. Therefore we can trust him.

Reason To Trust God #9: God Is Faithful

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13).

The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness (Exodus 34:6).

God is faithful. What a wonderful truth. We can stake our lives upon his faithfulness. When I was a kid, my dad would have to travel for work and he would tell us he would bring a toy home for us. There were times when he’d come home and I’d say, “Dad, where is the toy you got for us?”

And he would squinch up his face and say, “Oh, no, I’m sorry! I forgot to get your toy!” And we would be disappointed.

But God will never disappoint us. God is faithful. He will never forget to fulfill his every good promise. Therefore we can trust in him.

Reason To Trust In God #10: God Is Infinitely Loving

Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love (1 John 4:8).

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him (1 John 4:16)

Again, what a scary universe this would be if God were not loving. But because he is, we can trust him. We can trust that every single thing he does in our lives, he does and allows and works to our good because he loves us.

trust in god

Reason To Trust God #11: He Gave His Son For Us

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).

In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins (1 John 4:10).

The fact that God gave his most precious gift to us is the ultimate proof of his love. If God gave us the most precious gift he could give us, will he not give us every other good thing? Because God gave Jesus to pay for our sins and give us eternal life, we can trust him.

Reason To Trust In God #12: God Is Completely Just

“The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he (Deuteronomy 32:4).

The Almighty—we cannot find him; he is great in power; justice and abundant righteousness he will not violate (Job 37:23).

If I had to go to court before a judge who had a reputation for being unjust I would be terrified. But God is infinitely and totally just. He is righteous. He always does the right thing. He will never do anything unjust. He is The Rock – all his ways are justice. He is “without iniquity,” without sin. He never does anything wrong. Therefore we can trust him.

Reason To Trust God #13: God Has Wonderful Plans For His People

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind! (Psalm 31:19)

What a wonderful reason to trust our God! He has bags and bags of grace stored up for us, that he is just waiting to pour out on us. He has good plans for us, plans which nothing can stop him from fulfilling. So we can trust him.

Reason To Trust In God #14: God Will Make You Like Christ

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18).

God not only has good plans for us, but his great plan is to conform us to Christ. Yes, he has plans to provide for us and protect us, but what could be more encouraging than knowing God is making us into the likeness of his Son, and that every single thing we go through is part of that plan? Trust him that he is doing that right now in your life.

Reason To Trust God #15: God Is Infinitely Good

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! (Psalm 34:8)

Because God in his being and character is infinitely good, every single thing he does is good. What a rock-solid quality to put our trust in. Because God is good, we can take refuge in him. We will never be disappointed.

Reason To Trust In God #16: God Is Always Good To His Children

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep (John 10:11).

Not only is God infinitely good, but he is our loving heavenly Father and we are his children. Most earthly fathers want to be good to their children, though even the best fathers fail at times. But our heavenly Father never fails to do good to his children. He will give us every good thing and do everything that is good for us. Therefore we can trust him.

Reason To Trust God #17: God Will Never Leave You

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

Another reason to trust him! God never takes a break. He never forsakes us, never says, “Hang on, I’ll be back in 10 minutes.” No. He is with us 24/7. Every day of our lives. Therefore we can trust him.

Reason To Trust In God #18: God Cares For You

Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).

God isn’t up there, looking down on us, detached, uninvolved. No! He cares for us. Deeply. Jesus is a sympathetic high priest. God is filled with compassion for us. Therefore we can trust him.

Reason To Trust God #19: God Will Never Let You Go

…though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand (Psalm 37:24).

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved (Psalm 55:22).

What a rock-solid promise. God will never let the righteous be moved. He upholds us and keeps us. Let the storms of life come. They can never loose God’s grip on us. Therefore we can trust him.

Reason To Trust God #20: God Is With You

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. (Isaiah 43:2)

Are you walking in darkness right now? Are you walking through a storm, passing through a fiery trial. God has promised: “I will be with you.” He is with us wherever we go, whatever we go through. Therefore we can trust him.

God is our Rock! He never changes in his character or plans or purposes. He is our loving Father. So trust in him today.

  2. My 15 year old son has been stiff-arming God for over a year. He grew up in the church. He, at 13, wanted to be baptized and had a great testimony of what God had done in his life thus far. The church leadership, even after hearing his story, my story, and the testimony of others about his growth, decided it was not wise for him to be baptized. He now says he is an atheist and credits his thinking, in part, to his baptism desire being rejected. He does not believe that the Bible is true as it was written by men who are fallible and they could have written anything they want ( he does not believe that it was inspired by God). I wish that this list would give him reason to believe, but because it is all based on scripture which he does not believe to be true, it would not help. It is really a heart-breaking place to be as a mom. His father abandoned our family when he was about 7 so not only does he feel the rejection of that, but I am guessing he feels rejected by God because of the baptism issue. Please pray for him. Thank you!

    • Hi, I just read your post. My son also is struggling in his faith, but I find comfort in the fact that my prayers are eternal. Don’t lose hope. God never gives up on us. Look what he did in Paul’s life. I pray that God will renew your hope. Just keep praying. No one will cover him more in prayer than his own mother.

  5. If Amazon worked the way God does it would be out of business. Yes, we’ll deliver what you’ve asked for… maybe… if that’s what’s best for you and in line with your divine purpose. And btw, if we do it, we’ll do it in our own timing which is absolutely perfect. Trust us on that. Anyway, we love you, we have our plans for you, we care for you, we are with you and we’re infinitely just and good.

    Happy shopping!
