19 Reasons Believers In Jesus Can Be Incredibly Hopeful And Optimistic

Do you have hope? Are you generally positive? Would you describe yourself as optimistic? Do you generally look forward to things in this life? Do you look forward to the next life?

If you have trusted in Jesus Christ for salvation, and called upon him to be your Lord, then you have many, many reasons to be hopeful. Christians should be the most hopeful and positive people on the face of the earth, for God has given us many reasons to have hope for this life and especially for the next. So what are some of the reasons we should have hope?

Reasons believers have hope for the next life

Reason for hope #1: We have hope that we will see Jesus face and enjoy him forever

Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:2

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Matthew 5:8

As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness. Psalm 17:15

We shall gaze upon Jesus’ face in all his infinite beauty and glory. And we shall join the angels in singing his praise forever and ever. What an incredible hope this gives us. What an incredible thing to look forward to – gazing on the face of Jesus!

Reason for hope #2: We have hope that we will be like Jesus

Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:2

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Romans 8:29

Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven. 1 Corinthians 15:49

It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare. – CS Lewis

Someday we will be perfectly conformed to Christ. We will reflect his glory. We will not be gods, but we will be “like him” in his glory. What hope this gives us.

Reason for hope #3: We have hope that we will enjoy the marriage feast of the lamb

And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” Revelation 19:9

I can’t imagine what this feast will be like, but it will be the ultimate, eternal celebration of Jesus and his bride. It will be a feast of joy and laughter and pleasure and hope.

Reason for hope #4: We have hope that we will reign with Jesus forever

and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.” Revelation 5:10

The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. Revelation 3:21

Heaven won’t simply be us playing harps and sitting around with nothing to do. Somehow we will enjoy reigning with our King and Savior.

Reason for hope #5: We have hope that Jesus will wipe away all our tears

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4

And the ransomed of the LORD shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. Isaiah 51:11

No more tears, sorrow, sadness, sickness, death. We will be filled with eternal joy.

Reason for hope #6: We have hope that we will see how God caused all things to work together for good

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

In this life we must trust that God is working all for our good, because we can’t always see how he is doing that. But in the next life, we will see how he did it. Then everything will make sense to us. We will see how God put all the pieces of the puzzle together.

Reason for hope #7: We have hope that we will no longer struggle with temptation and sin

No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. Revelation 22:3

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. Revelation 21:3

Satan and his demons will be cast into hell forever. He won’t be able to tempt us. And God himself will dwell with us. There can be no sin in his presence.

Reason for hope #8: We have hope that we will see how God answered our prayers

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. 1 John 5:14-15

Many times in this life we see God answer our prayers, but sometimes we don’t. We pray for years and years and don’t see the answer. But in heaven we will see how God answered every single one of our prayers.

Reason for hope #9: We have hope that Jesus will reward us and we will enjoy those rewards

For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. Matthew 16:27

Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Luke 12:33-34

When we get to heaven God will reward us for every good thing we did in his name. For every single time we blessed someone or gave to the poor. For every act of service we did for Jesus. I can’t imagine what that day will be like. But we will enjoy our rewards forever and ever.

Reason for hope #10: We have hope that we will see our loved ones who believed in Jesus

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words. 1 Thess 4:13-18

In heaven, we will see our loved ones who believed in Jesus and will be with them forever and ever. What hope we have! What reasons we have to look forward to heaven.

Reasons believers have hope for for this life

We who believe in Jesus have great hope for the next life. But we also have incredible hope for this life as well. Our hope is not just for heaven.

Reason for hope #11: We have hope that God will pour out his abundant goodness upon us in this life

Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind! Psalm 31:19

God doesn’t wait till heaven to bless us, but pours out his blessings upon us. His goodness is “abundant.” God has bags and bags of grace he is just waiting to pour out upon us.

Reason for hope #12: We have hope that God has plans to bless us in this life

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! Psalm 27:13

You have multiplied, O LORD my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told. Psalm 40:5

Our God has plans to bless us in this life. He has people for us to meet and enjoy. He has plans to provide for us and bless us and help us. We will see his goodness not only in heaven, but in this life as well.

Reason for hope #13: We have hope that God will give us victory over sin in this life

We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. Romans 6:6

We have hope for victory in this life. Jesus has broken the power of sin. It no longer has dominion over us and we no longer have to obey it, even though we may feel like we have to at times. He has freed us from our slavery! We have hope for ongoing and increasing victory over sin.

Reason for hope #14: We have hope that God will cause all things to work together for good in this life

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

How can we not have hope from this verse? God will work ALL things for our good. All good things, all painful things. Every sad thing. Somehow, God will work it for our good.

Reason for hope #15: We have hope that God will conform us more and more to the likeness of Jesus in this life

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Romans 8:29

Talk about all things working for our good. This is our greatest good, to be conformed to the image of Christ. Though God causes all things to work for our good in many ways, this is the greatest good he works in us – making us more and more like Jesus. And God does that in this life. What hope this brings us!

Reason for hope #16: We have hope that God has good works for us to do in this life

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

We don’t have to wonder if God will give us good works to do. We can have a certain hope that he will lead us in those works, because he prepared them before the foundation of the world.

Reason for hope #17: We have hope that God will fulfill his purposes for our lives

The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. Psalm 138:8

It is not primarily up to us to fulfill God’s purposes for us, but up to him. We can be sure that if we seek to follow him, he will not fail to lead us and guide us and fulfill his plans for us. This gives me great hope!

Reason for hope #18: We have hope that God will lead and guide us in this life

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Psalm 32:8

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. James 1:5

What hope this gives us! God hasn’t left us alone to figure things out in this life. He promises to personally guide and counsel us with his eye upon us. I don’t have to worry about the future; I have hope that God will lead me and guide me.

Reason for hope #19: We have hope that God will work in and bless our children and descendants

All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children. Isaiah 54:13

The children of your servants shall dwell secure; their offspring shall be established before you. Psalm 102:28

And as for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the LORD: “My Spirit that is upon you, and my words that I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your offspring, or out of the mouth of your children’s offspring,” says the LORD, “from this time forth and forevermore.” Isaiah 59:21

God has given believers many promises and reasons to have hope for our children. We can pray in faith and hope that God will save them and work in their lives.

Of all the people on earth, believers can be the most hopeful. If anyone has reasons to be optimists, it is us. If any of us should expect good for the future it is us. What a wonderful God we serve! Our God is a God of hope!
