God Has A Plan For You That Is Incredible!

Good news: God has a plan for you.

A specific, good plan, rich with blessings. Your life is not aimless or directionless, even if it feels that way. Your life is moving exactly where God intends. Your Good Shepherd is leading you, step-by-step, on the path he wants you to follow.

In Jeremiah 29:11, it says:

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

God Has A Plan For You In The Future

This quote was part of a letter God had Jeremiah write to the Jews whom Nebuchadnezzar had been taken captive to Babylon from Jerusalem. They had been ripped from their homeland, taken to a land where they were aliens and strangers. I can’t imagine how hopeless they felt.

They probably wondered if God had a plan for them or if God was done with them.

But God told them what to do. He told them to build houses and live in them, plant gardens and eat their produce. To get married and have children, then give their children in marriage to have more children.

And incredibly, God told them to seek the welfare of Babylon where ultimately he had sent them into exile. God even told them to pray for Babylon’s welfare.

Then God promised that after 70 years he would bring them back to Jerusalem. He told them he had plans for them, plans for their good, plans for their future, plans to give them hope.

Just like God has a plan for you.

This is a good reminder for us. We need to regularly remember that this world is not our home.

As Peter tells us:

Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. (1 Peter 2:11)

Just as Babylon was not the Jews’ final home, neither is this our final home. Our home is heaven. But like the Jews, we are to build our lives here for now. We’re to seek the good of our nation, our churches, our friends and neighbors. We’re to settle in – temporarily. But we mustn’t forget that after “70 years” – sooner or later – God will take us to our ultimate home – heaven.

Those are God’s plans for us. But he has plans for us now too.

Do you feel hopeless at times? Don’t know what to do? Face an uncertain future? Remember, God has plans for you. Both for the next life and for this life.

Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind! (Psalm 31:19)

God has abundant goodness stored up for us who fear him and take refuge in him. Not just a little bit of goodness, but abundant, overflowing goodness.

God Has A Plan For You That Is Specific

He isn’t vague or uncertain. He has every second of every day planned for us. He has an exact day and hour for our trials to end, just like had an exact 70 years planned for Israel. He has the exact time for you to meet your future husband. An exact day for you to land that job you can’t imagine. A day for you to get relief from that sickness. Our times are in his hands.

The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. Psalm 138:8

God has a purpose for each one of us. He has plans to use you and me for his glory. You may not know God’s purpose for your life. But you don’t need to because the Lord knows his plans for you and he will fulfill them. He has plans to bless you and use you that you can’t even imagine.

God Knows His Plans For You

“For I know the plans I have for you…” We don’t know God’s plans. But since he does, we can trust him. He knows his plans and how to fulfill them. Nothing can stop him from fulfilling them. He causes all things to work together to fulfill his plans.

God Has A Plan For You That’s Good

He is a good Father. He loves to give good gifts to his children. Everything God does is good and righteous. Even when he takes us through things that feel hard, eventually we will see they were for our good and our joy and gladness in him.

God’s ultimate plan for us is to make us like Christ, and bring us to himself, where we will gaze upon the face of Christ and experience never-ending joy in his presence.

God has plans for us, but we must patiently wait for him to fulfill them, just as Israel had to wait for God to fulfill his plans for them:

I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living!
Wait for the LORD;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the LORD! (Psalm 27:13-14)

First of all, we must trust God – we must continue to fight the good fight of faith – “I BELIEVE that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord.” We must regularly remind ourselves that God has promised he has plans for us, and that God will keep his word. He does not change his mind, or lie (Numbers 23:19).

And we must wait for God to fulfill his word in his timing. God tells us “be strong, and let your heart take courage” as we wait for him. We do this by calling to mind God’s many promises, and reminding ourselves of who God is.

But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:21-23)

Israel had to wait 70 years for God to fulfill his plan to bring them back to Jerusalem. But he surely did it.

God has planned good works for you to accomplish

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

When Jesus saves us, he implants a desire in our hearts to serve him and work for him. I often ask the Lord to guide me and show me what he wants me to do. We need not worry about what God wants us to do, because he has planned good works for us from before he created the universe, that we should walk in them.

God has planned good works for you to do. As you follow Christ, he will lead you into every on

God has plans to lead and guide you

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. PS 32.8

We don’t have to navigate this life by ourselves. The Creator of the Universe has promised to be our personal counselor. God doesn’t say he will send an angel to guide us, but he himself will instruct and show us the way to go. He himself will counsel us with his eye upon us. And he promises to lead us as a shepherd leading his flock:

The LORD is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters. Psalm 23:1-2

We are like sheep. We don’t know where to go. We don’t know how to provide for ourselves or what will bring us peace. But our good Shepherd has plans to lead us into green pastures and beside still waters.

God has plans to give you joy

“For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Isaiah 55:12

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11

This world promises joy but can’t deliver anything lasting. Jesus has plans to fill us with joy not only in this life, but for all eternity. What a wonderful God we serve!

God’s plans for you are unstoppable

For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, and who will turn it back? IS 14.27

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand. PR 19.21

Satan himself can’t stop God from accomplishing his plans in our lives. God will accomplish his purposes for us despite our flaws and failures. We are weak but he is strong. His purpose will stand. His hand is stretched out in our lives, and no one can turn it back.

God has plans to bless your children

I have told my wife Kristi at times, “I used to think that when our kids were grown up all our worries would be over. But now our concerns are bigger than ever.” We never stop loving and caring about our children. And if they get married and have children of our own, that only gives us more to care about. I’m so glad to know that God not only has plans for me, but he has plans for my kids and grandkids.

“And as for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the LORD: “My Spirit that is upon you, and my words that I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your offspring, or out of the mouth of your children’s offspring,” says the LORD, “from this time forth and forevermore.” Isaiah 59:21

The children of your servants shall dwell secure; their offspring shall be established before you. Psalm 102:28

Praise the LORD!
Blessed is the man who fears the LORD,
who greatly delights in his commandments!
His offspring will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed. Psalm 112:1-2

Don’t stop praying for your children and grandchildren! God has plans to bless them.

God’s great plan is to make you like Christ

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Romans 8:29

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18

This is the greatest blessing we could ever desire. For God to transform us more and more into the likeness of his Son. That’s what he is doing. That is God’s incredible plan for you and me. Who cares about success or wealth or possessions compared to becoming like our Savior?

God has incredible, unimaginable plans for you for eternity

God has plans for you to see the face of Christ

Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:2

I cannot even begin to fathom what it will be like to gaze upon the face of heaven’s beauty and glory. To look upon the infinite majesty of the one who died for me. And we will never grow tired of looking upon our Savior, because his beauty is infinite.

God has plans for you to enjoy the marriage supper of the Lamb

Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” Revelation 19:6-9

God has plans for you to share in Christ’s inheritance

Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, Ephesians 1:18

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 1 Peter 1:3-4

Trust God To Fulfill His Plan For You

God has wonderful, unimaginable plans for us. So wait for the Lord. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Trust in him. You will look upon the goodness of the Lord, in this life and especially in the next. Of all the people on earth, we who have believed in Jesus have this incredible hope. Those who don’t believe in him have no hope.

Praise God that he is so good and loving and faithful to us. Ask him for grace to trust him and wait for him. Ask him to fill you with joy and help you serve others as you wait for him to fulfill his plans for you.

I’m a pastor at Saving Grace Church in Indiana, PA. I’m married to Kristi, have 5 kids, and a growing number of grandkids. I enjoy songwriting, oil painting and coffee, not necessarily in that order.
