Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like a lot of people and churches I know are going through really hard times right now. Life can often be discouraging, even for those of us who know the Lord. We can feel hopeless at times. But God’s word is full of bible verses about hope – real hope for this life and incredible hope for our unimaginably glorious life to come.
We have an enemy who continually lies to us, telling us there’s no hope. He will tell us God doesn’t care, God isn’t involved, God isn’t going to do anything about our children, God isn’t going to provide for us. He will do anything he can to make us abandon our hope and trust in God, and to drag us into fear.
Of all the people on the face of the earth, we who know and trust and abide in Jesus Christ have hope. No one else has the kind of rock solid, unshakable hope we do. Earthly hope will fade and disappoint; Jesus will never disappoint our hope in him.
When we have hope, we can keep going in hard times. When we have hope, we can have deep, abiding joy. When we have hope we can get back up again when we fall.
So here are a few powerful promises from God’s word to give us hope. I have saved many of these Bible verses about hope and sought to memorize them. I also review them regularly. I would encourage you to do the same. These aren’t simply human thoughts but the very words of God he speaks to fill us with hope.

#1. Bible Verses About Hope: Our Spiritual Lives
Jesus calls his redeemed to follow him as disciples, obey him, sow to the Spirit, and seek to bear fruit for him. But it’s not all up to us. God promises to work out his purpose for us, and he will complete that work as well as sustain us until the day he returns.
The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. (Psalm 138:8)
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6)
so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (1 Corinthians 1:7-8)
#2. Scriptures About Hope: God Will Never Leave or Forsake Us
We don’t need to worry about whether God will provide for us and protect us till the end because he has promised to never leave us or forsake us. Even when we fail God, God never fails us.
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)
I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. (Psalm 37:25)
#3. Inspirational Verses About Hope: God Will Always Provide For Us
Young lions are strong and powerful. Yet even they suffer want and hunger. We are weak. Yet God promises that he will always provide for us. If we seek the Lord he promises we will lack nothing that we really need. We will lack no good thing. So we never need to despair but can always have hope.
Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints,
for those who fear him have no lack!
The young lions suffer want and hunger;
but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. (Psalm 34:8-10)
#4. Verses About Hope: God Will Rescue Us From Our Troubles
In this fallen world, we will face affliction, pain and various kinds of trouble. Yet God promises to deliver us out of them all. This gives us great hope when we’re in the middle of a trial. Never stop crying out to the Lord for help and deliverance, for he promises to hear our prayers.
When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears
and delivers them out of all their troubles. (Psalm 34:17)
Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
but the LORD delivers him out of them all. (Psalm 34:19)
#5. Bible Verses About Hope: Life Won’t Overwhelm Us
Not only does our Lord promise to deliver us from our afflictions, but he promises to be right there with us when we go through them. When the waters and rivers rise, Jesus holds our hand. And when we walk through fire and flames, we shall come out like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the fiery furnace, unharmed.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. (Isaiah 43:2)
#6. Scriptures About Hope: God Will Strengthen and Uphold Us
We who believe in Jesus don’t have to do this thing in our own strength. The God of infinite power and might gives us HIS strength. He doesn’t call us to live the Christian life on our own; he helps us, and upholds us.
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
#7. Verses For Hope: We Will Become More and More Like Christ
When we call upon Jesus to save us, he doesn’t simply forgive our sins and give us eternal life – though if that were all he did it would be absolutely incredible. But wait, there’s more – God not only forgives us, but he begins the incredible process of transforming us into the likeness of his Son. Day after day he changes us, making us more and more like Jesus. This gives us great hope!
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. (1 John 3:2)
#8. Scriptures For Hope: All Things, Good and Bad, Are Working For Our Good
What an incredible promise – God causes ALL things – good and bad – to work together for our ultimate good. No matter what kind of trials we go through, because God is sovereign and infinitely wise and loving, he causes those trials to work together for our good.
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
#9. Bible Verses About Hope: We Will Someday See Our Savior Face to Face
What an incredible hope we who believe in Jesus have! We won’t simply go to heaven where we will be happy and free from pain. But we will gaze on the infinite, glorious, unspeakable glory of Jesus Christ. Even the seraphim must cover their faces and cannot gaze on the holiness of God, but we will gaze upon Jesus beauty and majesty, face to face, from age to age.
For I know that my Redeemer lives,
and at the last he will stand upon the earth.
And after my skin has been thus destroyed,
yet in my flesh I shall see God,
whom I shall see for myself,
and my eyes shall behold, and not another.
My heart faints within me! (Job 19:25-27)
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. (1 Corinthians 13:12)
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. (Matthew 5:8)
Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. (1 John 3:2)
#10. Bible Verses About Hope: God Has A Good Future For Us
When things get tough in life we can be tempted to fear for the future. We can be tempted to envy wealthy or successful unbelievers, who seem to have no worries at all. But God tells us not to envy sinners, but focus on fearing and obeying him, because he will take care of us. He has plans to bless us that we don’t even know about.
Let not your heart envy sinners,
but continue in the fear of the LORD all the day.
Surely there is a future,
and your hope will not be cut off. (Proverbs 23:17-18)
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)
But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day. (Proverbs 4:18)
#11. Bible Verses About Hope: God Has Blessings For Us
God has bags and bags of blessings stored up for us, and many of them are for this life. We will look upon his goodness in this life, not just in heaven. He has abundant goodness stored up for us that he waits to pour out on us.
I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living!
Wait for the LORD;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the LORD! (Psalm 27:13-14)
Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind! PS 31.19
#12. Bible Verses About Hope: God Will Lead and Guide Us
I have prayed these promises again and again when I needed God’s guidance (which is every day). And what incredible promises: God himself will counsel and guide and give wisdom to us. He doesn’t promise to send an angel to guide us but promises he will PERSONALLY guide and lead us. Our Counselor is the one who has infinite wisdom and knows the beginning from the end.
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. (Psalm 32:8)
And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. (Isaiah 30:21)
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. (James 1:5)
#13. Bible Verses About Hope: God Will Never Cease To Love Us
Not only does God promise to guide and lead us, but he promises to love us every single morning and every single day of our lives. His steadfast love for us never ceases. Nothing can separate us from his love. And he pours out new mercies on us every morning because he is infinitely faithful.
But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:21-23)
#14. Bible Verses About Hope: God Will Fulfill Every Promise
We frail humans often make promises that we forgot to do. Sometimes we say we’ll do something then change our minds. God isn’t like us weak and sinful humans. God cannot lie, and because he is infinitely wise, if he says he will do something, he won’t change his mind. He will fulfill every promise in his word. What hope this gives us!
God is not man, that he should lie,
or a son of man, that he should change his mind.
Has he said, and will he not do it?
Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? (Numbers 23:19)
so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. (Hebrews 6:18)
#15. Bible Verses About Hope: We Will Be Rewarded
God is so wonderful and amazing that he not only saves and forgives our sins, but he gives us works to do, empowers us by his Spirit to do them, then he rewards us for doing them. Every act of kindness we do, every tiny seed we sow, God promises to reward us for in heaven.
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3:23-24)
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9)
Knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free. (Ephesians 6:8)
And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” (Matthew 10:42)
#16. Bible Verses About Hope: We Will Be Glorified
Our sufferings in this life at times seem heavy and unending. But God promises that when we get to heaven and experience the eternal, everlasting, unbelievable weight of glory he causes our afflictions produce, by comparison, we will see that our afflictions here were light and momentary. Keeping our eyes on the glory to come in this promise gives us great hope!
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)
#17. Bible Verses About Hope: Suffering and Sadness Will End
What a promise! Someday, Jesus himself, our great and glorious king, will personally wipe away every tear from our eyes. Someday there will be no more sadness and grief, no more mental, emotional or physical pain, no more crying about our children or grandchildren, no more broken lives. No more tears!
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
These promises from give me great hope. God cannot and will not lie. We can stake our lives and our future on God’s word. We who know Jesus have unshakable hope, both for this life and the next.

Thank you Eric! I’m grateful the Lord would bless you through it and through his Word!
“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.” … This is a genuinely great inclusion, because so many people buy into the prosperity gospel idea that if you are right with God, He will give you everything you want here on earth. Not so! And SO dangerous! This verse nails it to a wall, while providing an amazing and far better promise at the same time.
Amen Sandy! Thanks for these excellent comments!
