15 MIGHTY Prayers For Guidance When Life Feels Confusing

The good news is that God has promised to guide us and to answer our prayers for guidance. In Psalm 32:8, the Lord says:

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.”

1. A Prayer For Guidance and Trust

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake (Psalm 23:1-3).

Lord, I may not know what to do, but I trust that you have a good, sweet, sovereign plan for my life. Even though I may not know the way to go, you do, and I trust you to lead me every step of the way.

Your word says that you are my shepherd and that I am your sheep. I trust you to lead me beside still waters. I trust you to bring me to green pastures. You won’t leave me or forsake me. You’ll never abandon me. You’ll never stop doing good to me.

I refuse to trust in my own wisdom and my own discernment. Instead, I place all my trust and hope in you. I place all my faith in you. I place all my confidence in you. You are my rock. My hope. My strong tower.

I fully trust that you will guide me to the good place you have for me.

2. A Prayer For Wisdom

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him (James 1:5)

Lord, now more than ever, I need your wisdom. I don’t know the best way to go, nor can I see the best path to choose. There are so many options in front of me. And so I ask for your divine wisdom. I ask that you would please give me the clarity of thought and wisdom that only you can provide.

I thank you that you have promised to give me wisdom and to guide me. You have promised that you will direct my steps. You have promised that nothing can ever separate me from you, and that you will always lead me in paths of righteousness for your name’s sake.

So now I pray that you would please give me wisdom and guidance. I pray that you would make the way clear before me. That you would give me wisdom to carefully weigh out all the circumstances and to decide on what the right one is. I thank you that you will do this. I absolutely trust you to.

3. A Prayer Of Submission

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act (Psalm 37:5).

Father, as I consider the future and my need for guidance, I submit myself completely to you. I may have plans, but ultimately you are the one who establishes those plans. I may envision doing certain things, but you are the only one who can bring those things to pass.

And so I pray that you would help me to have a spirit of submission as I seek your guidance. Help me to humbly submit all my ways to you. I know that, ultimately, your ways are best and true and good. You will lead me in what is best, and so I joyfully submit myself to you.

Just as a child submits to his loving father, so I submit to you, my loving Father. I know that all the plans you have for me are for my good and your glory. And so I joyfully place my plans before you, trusting that you will bring to pass that which is good and gently turn me aside from that which is not.

4. A Prayer For Guidance and Peace

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you (Isaiah 26:3).

Father, I confess that I am tempted to be afraid when life feels uncertain. When life feels confusing, I’m tempted to try to figure out everything myself, and when I do that, I become afraid. Because the reality is that I can’t figure the future out. Only you know the future. Only you know all things.

I ask that you would give me divine peace as I seek your guidance. You promise the peace that passes understanding. You promise to keep him in perfect peace whose mind is fixed on you. With that in mind, I am fixing my mind on you. I call to mind your faithfulness and goodness and trustworthiness.

I am trusting you. I am placing all my hope in you. When I do that, I find your peace. Please help me to keep my mind stayed on you, always trusting in who you are and your utter faithfulness. I can’t manufacture divine peace. Only you can give it to me. Thank you that you will give me your peace.

5. A Prayer For Guidance and Strength

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:9)

Father, as I confront an uncertain future, I need your strength. Give me the strength to keep going forward, even when I don’t know the outcome. Give me the strength to trust you, even when I can’t figure out how everything will pan out. Give me the strength to not be afraid.

In and of myself, I am weak. I am frail. I don’t have enough strength. I need you to sustain me through the trial of uncertainty that I’m facing. I need you to give me divine strength because I feel very weak.

I thank you that when I am weak, you are strong. That when I’m fragile, you are invincible. That you won’t break a bruised reed or snuff out a smoking wick. Because that’s what I often feel like when I’m facing an uncertain future. I’m counting on you to give me supernatural strength to keep pressing into you and pressing forward in my circumstances.

6. A Prayer For Guidance and Protection

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1)

Father, as I face an uncertain future, please protect me. Protect me from fear. Protect me from discouragement. Protect me from anything that would try to take my eyes off of you.

I know that you are a strong and mighty fortress. I know that you are a strong tower and a place of safety. And so I run into your arms, knowing that you will protect me from all the enemy’s arrows. You will hide me in the shadow of your  wings. You will encircle me with your love and care.

Thank you that I can trust you to protect me, even when the future is uncertain. I know that you are my light and my salvation. And so I will not be afraid. In Jesus’ name, amen.

7. Prayer For Guidance About The Future

Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please. (Isaiah 46:9-10)

Father, I come to you in Jesus’ name, asking that you would give me clarity about the future. I feel so uncertain and confused right now. I don’t know what to do or where to go. I need your guidance and your wisdom.

Please help me to trust you. Help me to lean on you and not on my own understanding. Help me to surrender my future into your hands. I know that you have a plan and a purpose for my life. And so I am asking you to reveal that to me.

Give me the courage to follow where you lead. Even if it’s not the path that I would choose for myself, I know that you will lead me to what is best. I trust you, Father. I surrender my future into your hands. In Jesus’ name, amen.

8. A Prayer For Hope

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Father, I’m feeling so hopeless right now. I don’t know how things are going to work out. I don’t see a way forward. But I know that you are a God of hope. I know that you have plans to prosper me and not to harm me. Plans to give me a future and a hope.

So I am asking you, Father, to infuse my heart with your hope. Fill me up with your peace and your joy. Help me to trust you, even when everything around me is falling apart.

I know that you are faithful. I know that you are good. And so I will put my hope in you. I will trust you, even when the future is uncertain. In Jesus’ name, amen.

9. A Prayer For Relationship Guidance

Bad company corrupts good character. (1 Corinthians 15:33)

Father, I am feeling so lost and confused right now. I need your guidance in my relationships. I don’t know who to trust or who to turn to. I need your wisdom.

Please help me to see the people in my life the way that you see them. Help me to discern who is good for me and who is not. Help me to surround myself with people who will build me up and encourage me. And help me to let go of the relationships that are dragging me down.

I know that you have a plan for my life. And so I am asking you to reveal that to me. I surrender my relationships into your hands. I trust you to guide me and to lead me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

10. A Prayer For A Job

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)

Father, I need your guidance in my career. I don’t know what to do or where to go. I need your wisdom.

Please help me to trust you. Help me to lean on you and not on my own understanding. Help me to surrender my future into your hands. I know that you have a plan and a purpose for my life. And so I am asking you to reveal that to me.

Give me the courage to follow where you lead. Even if it’s not the path that I would choose for myself, I know that you will lead me to what is best. I trust you, Father. I surrender my future into your hands. In Jesus’ name, amen.

11. A Prayer For Strength

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:31)

Father, I am feeling so weak right now. I don’t know how much more I can take. I need your strength.

Help me to run and not grow weary. Help me to walk and not be faint. Help me to put one foot in front of the other, even when I don’t think I can make it.

I know that you are with me. I know that you will never leave me or forsake me. And so I will trust you, even when I am at my weakest. In Jesus’ name, amen.

12. A Prayer For Protection

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. (Psalm 91:4)

Father, I am feeling so vulnerable right now. I need your protection.

Please help me to trust that you are my shield and my rampart. Please help me to find refuge in you. Help me to know that I am safe in your arms.

I know that you are a God of protection. Please protect me as I walk through the trials and tribulations of life. Give me guidance on the way to go. Keep me away from evil and trouble. And help me to always trust in your protection. In Jesus’ name, amen.

13. A Prayer For Healing

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. (Psalm 147:3)

Father, I am feeling so broken right now. I need your healing. I am asking that you would heal every aspect of me, including my body, emotions, and mind. Restore me top to bottom and heal my soul.

Please help me to trust that you can heal my broken heart. Help me to believe that you can bind up my wounds. I know that you are the great physician and that you have the power to heal me. Jesus, you healed all that came to you, and I know that you still heal today.

So I am asking you to do just that. Heal my broken heart, bind up my wounds, and restore me to wholeness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

14. Prayer For Guidance As A Parent

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6)

Father, I need to know what to do as a parent. Parenting can be so challenging at times. It can be so confusing and overwhelming. I need your guidance.

Please help me to trust that you will lead me and guide me as I parent my children. Help me to know that you have a plan for their lives. And so I am asking you to reveal that to me.

Give me wisdom and knowledge as I raise my children. And help me to instill in them the values and principles that you have called us to live by. In Jesus’ name, amen.

15. A Prayer For Comfort After The Loss Of A Loved One

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. (Revelation 21:4)

Father, I am feeling so much pain right now. I have lost a loved one and it feels like my world has been turned upside down. I need your comfort.

Please help me to trust that you are with me in this dark time. Help me to know that you are holding me and that you will never leave me.

Give me the strength to get through each day. Surround me with your love and comfort. And please help me to remember that one day this pain will be gone and I will be reunited with my loved one again. In Jesus’ name, amen.
